Another “blast from the past” this week. This time it’s not The WOE Continuing, but “Another DSTC success story” as we Alumni like to say :-)
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away I was fortunate enough to work at DSTC and be part of a software engineering team that build the openEHR-based electronic health record (EHR) server for HealthConnect‘s Brisbane South HealthConnect Trial (BSHTC, more here). Rumour has it the software we developed is still running somewhere inside Queensland Health, but the better news back then was that the BSHTC project led to a spinoff called Extensia and a product called RecordPoint.
After what appears to be many years of struggle and (I suspect) near death experiences, Extensia seems to be heading for even more success. GP Partners has been using RecordPoint for coordinating care for chronic disease patients across health service providers in the Brisbane north area. I’ve heard it’s working well, which is probably part of the reason why GP Partners has been selected as one of the pilot sites for the NEHTA specified health care identifiers infrastructure (described by Karen Dearne here, and in the NEHTA-sponsored ehealthcentral blog here).
Dare I suggest it’s one small step forward for e-health in Australia? Only pilots of course, but they are using identifiers infrastructure…
